Ya Ya Raya

Dear Blogger,

I'm so glad the Hari Raya festivities are over. Throughout the whole month of Ramadan, I was so caught up with Hari Raya that my routine turned upside down. Backlog at work is piling up and my mental health is on a roller coaster ride.

I realised that the older I get, the more pressing it is for me to get the house and family ready for Hari Raya. Every time Ramadan comes along, I would tell myself that I was going to have a simple Hari Raya. Yet, I always end up spending hundreds of dollars on clothes, accessories and home furnishings. I don't know why I even bother. We hardly have visitors.

What I hate most about this festive season is the family drama. Emotional blackmail is thrown almost daily and emotional baggage gets heavier by the day. The ongoing family conflicts get colder and they don't look like they're heading towards a peace treaty anytime soon.

My school semester has started and my first class is this Thursday. But I haven't opened any textbooks yet. My head is banging against my skull almost daily. I can feel my body trying to tell me to shut down before I reboot. I think it's about time for a decent holiday isn't it?
