Dear Blogger,

So Katy Perry has asked Russell Brand to file divorce papers for her just so that she won't upset her conservative parents. That's a little mean don't you think? I'm not sure what's the real story behind their split but I really think it wasn't Russell who wanted the divorce. When these two unlikely couple tied the knot, I really hoped that they would really beat the odds by staying together for as long as Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale was. It was a bit of a shocker to read about their breakup over the New Year. But not as heartbreaking as when Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams split up.

Anyway, why was I surprised? Divorce in Hollywood is as common as blond, aesthetically-enhanced women there. Fidelity is not regarded highly in La La Land. Infidelity can make a jilted spouse a millionaire. A faithful spouse doesn't. The latest multi-millionaire is former Mrs Mel Gibson. I have to say she earned every $400 million Mel has to pay her, after almost 20 years of marriage and 7 children. Was it 7 children? Ipy and I think Mel Gibson had a mid-life crisis and he paid dearly for that.

Ipy can attest to the fact that divorce is expensive considering he was a one-time male divorcee. He didn't have to pay alimony but lawyer's fees along can set you back a few months' salary. Guess that was small change now considering our paths were meant to cross, no matter how rocky (and expensive) the journey was. So my advice to the young and heartbroken now is, if it's not meant to then it's not meant to be. Free yourself from the painful past and give fate a chance. Once you've learnt to let go, things will fall into place. That's just how life works its magic.

So Katy and Russell, maybe you were just not meant for each other. Maybe you were, just like Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. Those two were clearly soulmates who just can't stay married to each other. Whatever it is, give "for better and for worse, till death do us part" a chance.
