Dear Blogger,

On 2nd November at 6.11 p.m., we welcomed a new member to the family. Finally, our son was born. It was a testy pregnancy, but the journey ended well with a smooth delivery. Baby Iman was born in the 38 plus weeks via normal vaginal delivery.

Alhamdulillah our son was finally born at 6.11pm, 2 Nov. Welc... on Twitpic

I opted for epidural again. This time round though, the anaesthetist gave me a lower concentration than previously. Obviously I could feel the increasing intensity of the contractions nearer to delivery.

That defeats the purpose of an epidural in the first place! If I'm going to pay $500 for pain-free drugs and additional $500 for a doctor to inject me with it, then I damn well don't want to feel anything waist down!

The reason I opted for an epidural was not because I was afraid of pain. I just wanted a stress-free, non-crazy-woman-screaming delivery. I wanted my baby to come out to a world where the only crying he would hear was his.

But insya-allah, everything went well. Iman weighed a hefty 3.7kg, a significant 0.2kg heavier than his sister. I had no doubt in my mind than I could deliver such a heavy baby. He's 5cm shorter than Sarah though, but he will still be taller than his daddy.

How did Sarah react to all this? At first, I think she did not realise that this baby will be staying with us permanently. She probably thought he was somebody else's baby. When we brought him home though, the realisation finally set in. Then Sarah became very sensitive to everything.

I know that is a natural reaction. For over a year, Sarah has been receiving our undivided attention. So when a sibling comes in, she will find it hard to share the attention. I am determined though, to ensure that everyone gets a fair share of attention.

How? I don't know. It's a learning process.
